In this honors course about DNA and evolution, our class worked to understand new discoveries in genetics and investigate how these discoveries tell a story about the evolution of life on Earth. We also dove further into discussions about the role that society has played in altering life on Earth and the ethical concerns that are being raised in relation to our new ability to alter and modify the genomes or humans and other organisms. As a part of this course, each student had to complete a survey based study of some evolutionary trait and determine the specific trait's heritability. My project focused on the heritability of skin tone , specifically in mixed race families, and was an extension of previous research on the genetics of skin tone for a previous class.
